Drivers License on visitor visa (CA)

Hi all,

It seems that state of California is giving driving license to undocumented immigrants.

However for visitors, DMV handbook mentions that DL from home country is fine in CA.

Would you know if California provides DL to someone on a Visitor visa?

(it would seem counter intuitive that illegal immigrants can get DL, but legal visitors can't. )

Thanks in advance.

You mean, law breakers like people on bench on H1???

Do you prefer getting hit by an uninsured motorist?

A visitor who wants to rent a car has to have a drivers license already, from his or her home country, and obviously doesn't need a US drivers license.

The only visitor who would "need" a US DL would be a visitor who lost his home DL, e.g., due to speeding or DUI, and wants to use a DL from another country to continue to drive in his home country. This kind of scheme has been quite popular in Europe, until the authorities shut that stuff down.

:) Thanks for the replies folks, this is amusing.

To provide more context,

my parents visit US quite often, and in India we never needed a car, however in US it would use useful to be able to drive.

Hence this question.

essentially,

visitor does _not_ have DL from home country and intends to get a DL in California.

It is NOT possible. Nowhere in the US. Period.

It hasn't been possible for around 20 years.

And even if they would manage to get a DL, it would only be valid until the I-94 expires. So for each trip, they would have to get a new DL.
