prashanthc
I am on H1B. However I was interested and considering to become a realtor- for myself. That is invest in a real estate compnay with a friend who will be owning it with me and running the day to day operations. A realtor is supposed to be an independent contractor affiliated with a sponsoring broker. the law is very clear that the broker is not an employer. he cannot ask you to come and work for certain hours of day cannot give fixed compensation etc. so i would technically not be emplyed by the broker but an independent contractor. Now I am not going to be receiving any compensation for my work as it will be for myself. I dont intend on selling properties to others but act as a the buyers agent. this would save me 3% on every transaction. Is that allowed? Working as an independent contractor without receiving compensation? Link to comment
JoeF
This would be work and is NOT allowed without the appropriate work authorization. On H1, you can ONLY work for your employer. You can NOT work anywhere else, not employed and not self-employed. Link to comment
