JoeF
You can't "go for contracting" on H1. On H1, you ALWAYS work as employee. The employer may be a consulting company doing contracting work, but you don't do contracting. You work for the employer, who may send you to a client. In general, a position with a company that has products is the best. The consulting business in IT has lots of shady companies and outright frauds. Link to comment

wiweq
Mostly, US contracting model does not suite with H1b requirements. Avoid consulting on H1b. Link to comment

mmohankr
My first Emp A filed my H1 in 2012 valid until April 2015. Second Emp B filed my H1 in 2013 valid until 2016 April. Is it feasible and valid legally to jump from Emp A to Emp B before my H1 expires with Emp A - April 2015? Link to comment

It will be stupid to work for some consulting firm after leaving a fulltime job. Link to comment
