L1A - petition renewal process after 7 yrs.

Hi There,

 

I was in H1B visa for 6 years and converted to L1A which has visa expiry date till May 2019 and PED (Petition expiry date) till May 2015. I am planning to move out of USA for one year and after 1 year, I can process a new petition with my employer from India.

 

But, Do i need to visit consulate office similar to a brand new visa? 

or it would be similar to applying an extension in USA? I can apply to get new petition and travel with out any new stamping?
