Maggie
Hi, I have worked on H1B in the past and now I am moving back to the US on L2 visa. I have been told that I cannot start working till I have an EAD card which usually takes 90 days to process. I have SSN etc. in place and so I keep wondering if I can start working while my EAD is in the process. I already have a job lined up so I don't want to wait 3 months to join. Would appreciate your expertise. Thank you! Link to comment
jairichi
You need a valid EAD card to start working otherwise it is considered unauthorized employment. Link to comment
pontevecchio
Inform your HR about the matter. It is up to them. This is a grey zone though working after getting the EAD is best. I am referring to L2 status. Link to comment
JoeF
According to the Social Security administration, you don't need to have an EAD to start working on L2: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211420#g1 You would need to have a social security card without restrictions, which you can get according to that document.
