Can my wife come back to US on H4 after COS to H1 approved in 2014

My wife who has a valid H4 visa stamped in 2013 (visa valid till 01/2015) got her H1 and COS approved this year (2014) and she is legal to work from Oct-2014. Now her employer cannot find a project and she want to come back on H4. We are planning a trip to India in Nov-2014. 
Now can she come back to US on her valid H4 visa stamp or 
does she need to go for new H4 visa stamp or 
do we need to apply for he COS from H1 to H4 before leaving US and get it approved before coming back to US.

 

Please help.

She is out of status now if she is not paid by her employer.

She can use existing valid H4 visa and a copy of your I797 to enter US.
