H1B approved just for 4 months!!

My H1b got approved but expiring this January ! Has anyone experienced this ? I read I can apply extension 6 months prior expiration but since it won't kick in Oct 1 , do i have to apply extension after Oct 1 ?

 

My OPT expires Jan 2015, could this be an error that they got the expiration date from that !!

 

Please drop you view/experience. I have seen some H1b for 1 yr but not 4 months !!

Check with your attorney why it happened like this. Your attorney can request USCIS to correct the validity date.

As Rahul suggested check with your attorney and they can check with USCIS for same. Regarding extension, if you can travel in prior to 2-3 months before your expiry, extension can be filed. Basically, you should get File# for your extension before your Visa expires.
