non-cap H1B to Cap H1B

I moved from a private company to university job on March 2014. I am currently interviewing for some private companies and wondering if they can file my H1-B and I can start working right away? Or should I wait until next April for them to apply and then start working from October of 2015?

Only if you are cap counted at least once and not used the max allowed stay of 6 years on H1B you are cap exempt and can move to a for-profit employer.
