Valid H1B visa, New I-797

Hello,

 

I have a valid Visa in my passport until Dec 2014. I will be travelling to India in Aug 2014 for around 2 weeks.

 

My company is in the process of applying for my H1-B extension (this will be my 9th year extension based on my approved I-140).

 

Now, do I need to get the visa stamped if I get new I-797? or can I enter the USA with my current visa and avoid going to consulate.
