kpv
Hi, Am curious to know if Birth certificate is 'mandatory' for I485 (adjustment of status)? I hear mixed opinions while some say it's mandatory while someother say that it is okay not to have it if your passport mentions the name of the place. Would like to know any alternatives to the Birth certificate (like affidavit from self etc.) Appreciate if someone can clarify? Link to comment

chakrakr
Mandatory Nope. There are options available. OP, here is what you need -- Affidavit from your parents (or relatives/family friends who were present during your birth) confirming the name of parents, Date, Time and place of birth. A Birth Certificate Non Availability Certificate from Birt Registration office of the town where you were born (If I remembe correct , this is called Form 10). I believe there is a nominal fee for this Copy of your Board Exam Certifcate/Admit card /registration (anything which has your DOB mentioned) Link to comment
