L1 B Visa and I -94 valid but petition date expired

Hi,

 

This is with respect to L1 B visa.

 

L1 B visa valid till 2018

I94 valid till 2015 (as passport is expiring in 2015)

Petition date expired in Aug 2013

 

My friend travelled to India because of family emergency. When he started his travel back to US , the flight personals prohibited him from flying as his petition date has alreday expired. I think this is a first case of its kind as I94 and visa are still valid but petition date has expired.

 

Kindly suggest what need to be done as he has all his stuff her in USA.

I believe your friend should thank airline officials. An invalid petition with a valid visa will not allow him to enter US. If petition is no longer valid your friend would have been sent back at POE. His employer has to file for extension.
