I am Planning to apply H1 for my wife on April 1st. Can I file H4 extension after her H1B Approval.my H1 and her H4 both wil be expiring on Sept30th. If her H1 gets approved in July, I am planning to apply for H4 extension along with my H1 Extension. If her H4 gets approved, is she going to be on H4 status until she files for a change of status?

Let her potential H1 employer file on April,1 with COS and starting October,1. If approved she is fine. If not file her H4 extension of status before October,1.

You mean an employer is filing her H1B petition and not you?

If you file H4 extension after her H1B petition along with COS is approved then she goes back to H4 status even after 1st Oct. In that case employer has to apply for COS to H1B or she exits and enters US with a valid H1B visa.
