rahulrobiee Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Hi Guys, I am planning for H1B Stamping in Jamaica in November last week (or DEC 1st week). Any one who is planning around that time please share your info we can plan together. Also, who have already been to Jamaica or knows following information please share. 1. Any Hotels to stay near the consulate. 2. Can we hire a car there to travel on a US Drivers License ? 3. Any information about the available dates in Last week of November ? 4. Any additional information which might be useful for planning. Thanks, Rahul.
maverickp Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 1. Lots of options, but hotels here in Kingston are on the expensive side - be prepared to spend $100 per night, in the least. And a tip: stick to hotels that are in the uptown or downtown area, and AVOID areas of Kingston like Trench Town. Liguanea (pronounced LI-GAH-NEE) is good and a convenient location, as is St. Andrew Parish. Some options that I was checking out to stay in terms of hotels are Courtleigh, Liguanea Club, Kingston Hilton, Spanish Court and Knutsford Court (which is where I stayed at).2. Yes. Try this company called Island Rentals, and there's Avis as well. 3. No idea. I got done with my visa appointment yesterday, so cannot see the available dates now. 4. Plan to get to Kingston at least one day before your visa interview date. Arrange for a good local taxi driver, ask your hotel front desk. Don't flag down taxis on the roads like you're probably used to doing back in the US or India - it might not be safe and you don't want to go with some random guy. Also, when booking flight tickets, make sure you have a return ticket to the US, or an onward ticket to India or some third country, before you leave for Jamaica. You'll be asked to show the itinerary for the outbound ticket at Kingston during immigration here. If you don't have an outbound ticket, you'll be made to buy one right then and there, and if you have an expired US visa, you cannot transit through the US, so you'll be in a fix then.Good luck!
