7th year extension based on pending PERM

I've completed 6 yrs of stay in US and PERM has been filed by the employer. Its currently in audit status. 

Since I've completed 6 yrs on H1B , I;ve converted to H4 status. When the PERM is pending for 365 days, employer is willing to file for change of status from H4 to H1. 

 

1. Once the COS is filed from H4 to H1, can I start working on receiving the receipt number or do I need to wait for the approval?

You have to wait for approval. hence have them use PP.
