SunJune
Hi All, I am currently on H1B Visa and as I have a PhD, I am planning to apply for Green Card by myself. My brother who happens to be an US citizen was also thinking to sponsor me. My question to you all is if I apply for Green Card and my brother also sponsors me, then what will be the impact on the applications if any, or they can be processed in parallel? Thanks! I guess they can be processed in parallel as they are different categories. I believe you know the wait time for a family based GC processing for a sibling from India. Link to comment
JoeF
You need to get up to speed on these things first. There is no one "green card application." There are multiple applications in the process that have to be filed in sequence (and sometimes it is possible to file them in parallel.) Applying for yourself is only possible in very limited situations. Having a PhD does not automatically mean that it is possible. I-130 (for a family-based application) and I-140 (for an employment-based application) are independent. The I-485 Adjustment of Status should only be filed once, referencing one of the underlying immigrant petitions (I-130 or I-140.) Link to comment
SunJune
Thanks to both of you for your replies. I guess it will need more research on my end. Link to comment
