H1 and SSN query

My friend who was on H4 got her H1 approved last week.

Should there be a pay roll running on her name from Oct 1st 2013?

Should she apply for SSN immediately?

Or is it like once she gets an SSN, there should be a pay roll running on her name?

Can she wait for a month or two (till she gets a project) to apply for SSN and then her payroll is taken careof?

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. No

4. She has to be paid from Oct 1st otherwise she is out of status. If she is not being paid she has to complain about her employer to DOL.

SSN is required for running paycycle for any company.

Apply for SSN immediately more over sometimes clients asks for last 4 digit of SSN for validation.

Actually, payroll can be run without having the SSN already.

And what clients ask for is not the employee's concern.

yes. omshiv thanks. But SSN is an identification for oneself... in US... I feel we should be ready when we start for a project.

Bcoz like at client place also there will be background checks and drug tests for consultants. not foe all.

For paycycle also I might not have been apparent enough. Sorry.

Thanks

Regardless of what the client requires, you need to get paid by your employer, even if you don't have the SSN yet.

The client requirements are between the client and your employer.

You ALWAYS need to get paid. Period.
