H4 to H1 - When to start work ?

Hi,

 

I was on H4 and my H1 with start date Oct 1st, 2013 is approved. 

 

When MUST I start working. Should the payroll start from Oct 1st (or) can I start in couple of weeks. I still need to get my SSN.

Yes, from 1st Oct 2013.

your employment starts from Oct 1st...if your employer doesnt pay you then complain to the DOL.

SSN is not a roadblock to start payroll. He can add SSN to payroll after sometime too.

You have to report for work within 60 days and once you do you have to be on the payroll. Do not make your own assumptions. Talk to HR.
