JoeF Posted September 30, 2013 Report Share Posted September 30, 2013 Are you a US citizen? Only US citizens can sponsor their parents. If they enter as visitors and an I-485 is filed soon after, there may be problems due to the question of intent. Link to comment

In the past getting regular insurance was expensive (lack of history in the US) and new GC holders were not eligible for Medicaid immediately. However now with ACA/Obamacare the options for new GC holders may be better. I would be interested to learn about the experience of folks who are trying to get insurance through the new health insurance exchanges (in the states that have set them up). Thanks! Link to comment

asarma Posted November 22, 2013 Report Share Posted November 22, 2013 Depending on your income you can apply for subsidized health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. All US citizens can do this. The government website https://www.healthcare.gov/ tells you more and you can find out about the marketplace in your state. Link to comment
