CCJa Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 I was on F1 visa and in May 2013 my change of status was approved for non-profit H1-B visa. However, recently I found out that the problem is that USCIS databases are not updated and the database still reflects F1, which is now expired. After I brought this to the notice of USCIS the updating process was started. I was supposed to travel to India but they say that in the current situation it is not advisable to do so. And now I was wondering if anyone else had this same issue and how much time will it take to update. I tried asking about time to USCIS but they say they do not know of any time frame for this.
Winterfell Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 This is not a general case. How did you even know that this has happened. I knw one of my friend had had this problem and he found this out when he was applying for a drivers licence. It took him 1 month to get his licence and then more 1.5 months to sort everything else out. He said they kept telling him they will inform him when its done. He had no timeline like in other general cases.
CCJa Posted September 29, 2013 Author Report Posted September 29, 2013 Winterfell, Thank you for your reply. I found out about this in the same way as your friend, I had problems with my driving licence too. I found out about this issue in May 2013 after I got my H1b approval. And after doing some manual document verification I was issued my licence almost after a month. At this point I was not aware that my information in the database was still not updated. I thought it was the problem with SAVE system which has been solved. In early September I again contacted USCIS, because I wanted to travel out of US, and found out that my data was still not updated and reflected as F1. It was at this point that I asked them to process it and now its almost 2 weeks and I am aware that it is raised at High-priority. I wanted to know: 1. Can I expect it to happen within 2 weeks (that will make it a month)? 2. Was your friend's process also at High-priority and still it took him a total of 2.5 months? 3. Do you have any idea if it is safe to travel at this point?
Winterfell Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 1. I wouldn't know how much time it will take. But I think you can assume it to take a maximum of 2.5 months. 2. It was High-priority (afaik) 3. I would advise you against that.
CCJa Posted October 11, 2013 Author Report Posted October 11, 2013 Winterfell, Thank you for your replies I had sent you a message I am not sure if you got that or not. I was wondering if you could give me contact information for the friend who was facing this issue. It will be very helpful.
