mmohankr and Texan_221,

I had my interview on 18th Sept...got blue 221g, they took my CV and publication. I emailed them on 26th Sept asking if they need anything else, and they replied on Spet 27th saying they do not need any information as of now. That day only I noticed a status change on ceac website to updated on 27th Sept. I guess its because they looked into the file.

Did you guys get 221g for TAL (Technology Alert List) check as well? What coloured form did they give?

Let us know of any updates.

Did they stamp your blue 221g with a batch no. and date or something?? For me, he just wrote down my name and date on the form....no stamp.

Any updates? My 221g does not have a batch number, just name and  date. I check using case number on CEAC.

Yes, I believe so. I have MS in Biomedical Engineering, with a full time job in Biomedical service field, note even research. I sent an e-mail on October 3rd asking if they need any details, response was the same, nothing until 60 business days and I saw an updated date of 3rd October when I check my status using DS 160 Bar code number. I wasn't given no batch number. Just the name. And I was asked, nothing but my resume. I was wondering if I could re-enter US within 30 days, but upon my research, I found out, it is not possible. My attorney and my Visa Officer seemed to have less knowledge as they suggested I could try. I am still waiting for a response and it is very depressing, just waiting.

kmukh,

It's a blue form. My visa interview had few basic questions and it seems like the VO already has a red flag on my profile over my computer. He wasn't really attentive while I was answering him. I had all possible documents that I could show him but wasn't asked for. I tried to follow up last week and found a status update date changed and nothing else. Their response was similar to what you received. I am in a Biomedical service firm (not research) but Biomedical falls under  TAL. That could be the reason. I am still waiting. Fingers crossed for my luck!

I think the Govt shutdown is affecting the Background checks.. don't you think?

I am not sure. The embassy replied they are operating as usual. And a lot of people in the China embassies have been getting clearance. But it might...who knows!!

Embassy is definitely operating but once a case gets into Administrative Processing, I don't think an Embassy is involved in it until they receive a response from the team that works on background verification, etc., (could be SSN, FBI, etc.,), which is why I thought govt shut down could be potentially affecting us to a certain percentage.

I just spoke with the lady in the administrative processing section at the Ottawa consulate, and I was told to post in this forum that calling her up is actually slowing down massively the processing she is supposed to do. The extension number given for the Ottawa consulate in this forum is her direct number, and I have called her up as well. She explained to me very nicely that all the processing takes place in Washington D.C. and the embassy will have no information about this processing until they hear back from D.C. She said the moment they hear back from D.C., they send out the email for the passport. She said she has been receiving massive number of calls lately, as well as voice messages and it takes at least 1 hour every day for her to go through all those messages, as well as talk to the people for no reason which slows down the processing at the end of the day. She urged everyone to email the Ottawa consulate for any information, and they would be happy to reply. Even from my personal experience, they are pretty prompt in replying.

I emailed the embassy yesterday asking if some other information is needed or if there is an update. No reply from embassy but CEAC status changed to today's date. Still in AP. Lets see what happens.

Dont get your hopes too high, I would say..:( Looks like whenever we have contacted the embassy to enquire about the status, they updated the status. That has been the trend for almost everyone in this forum. But who knows, you might have some good news!! Good luck!!
