Please check your local DMV to determine which documents are acceptable for drivers license renewal. Some states will accept the I-797 receipt notice. Also, the company may want to upgrade the pending H1B case to premium processing. USCIS will take action on the petition within 15 calendar days of receiving the upgrade request.

Hi, I am in california and i moved recently from florida. My H1 visa is going to expire by 10/10/2013 and my H1 extension is in process. Today 9/26/2013, I went to california DMV office to get driving license. I have cleared the written test and before issuing my license, the officer asked for Legal precense document. I showed him I797 receipt. He is not accepting it as valid document. He gave me a slip with expiry date of 10/10/2013. and he said I have to submit a legal precense document before 10/10/2013. If not i never get a california driver license. THE DMV OFFICER IS NOT READY TO DISCUSS AND HE STRAIGHT AWAY SAID THAT NO AURGUMENT. Now i dont have time to convert my H1 process into premium to get it before 10/10/2013. I have no idea if there is anyother option. Please advice.
