itsuac Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Hi I am on H1B.I work for Company A and it asks me to go back to India. I want to quit Company A and search for a job and to take care of H1 transfer. How long can I stay in US without a payroll? Basically looking for the grace period that US law gives me to stay in US without a payroll till I get another job
omshiv Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 There is no grace period..once H1 is revoked you'll be Out of Status. Either do a COS on B1/B2 or if you are married then get on H4 (if your spouse is on H1).

If you are eligible for dependent status then go for it and look for next job.
veer2009 Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 I knew a friend who converted his visa to F1 till he got another job. If possible you can join a community college or any other institute that will give you a i-20 hope this helps

If possible you can join a community college or any other institute that will give you a i-20 hope this helps Admissions for fall are over. Classes have started already. It takes several months for admission. It is a bad idea to try to go for an F1, because the person would be out of status.

What will be your answer when vo asks " why did you wanted to work when you applied for F1?". Do you have answer for that??
