skc40
My H1 starts from Oct 1, 2013 and college starts from October 7, 2013. I would like to know if I can get admitted to the college now for classes that starts on October 7, or it is better to wait until October 1 before getting admitted. If I enroll now, what are the consequences? Thanks in advance Link to comment
asugrad
Why would you join college when you have a h1? Not enough info to advice Link to comment
JoeF
Applications for admission to a college take several months. And the Fall quarter is about to start or has started already. So, admission would only be possible for Spring quarter if the college offers that. What would you do until then? Link to comment
skc40
@asugrad--Since I have a bachelors degree, I would like to earn a masters degree. I don't want to go back to college as an F1, but earn masters degree while working on H1. @JoeF, yes typically, colleges start during August or 1st week of September for Fall and January for spring. But there are colleges (private and public) where classes offered are based on module system, not semester system. And classes start in either October or November. I am currently on OPT and H1 does not start until October 1, however, what I would like to know is, Can I get admitted to the college now or wait until H1 starts? If I get admitted now for classes that start after H1 has started, what are the consequences? Link to comment
JoeF
I suggest you don't apply at these low-level colleges. Find a real college if you want to study. Link to comment

But since you will be working on H1, I would say get admission from a good school and I guess you can enroll as part time student since you will be working on H1. If you take admission from private or low level colleges that degree will not be much useful to you. Link to comment
skc40
Thanks for the input guys. However, my question was not related to school or kinds of schools getting admitted to. Rather, I am trying to find out an answer if I can apply to the university and get admitted now or wait until H1 starts? If got admitted now, what will the consequences be on my H1? Link to comment
JoeF
Thanks for the input guys. However, my question was not related to school or kinds of schools getting admitted to. That should have been your first question, though. You are asking about step 3 when step 1 isn't even clear. Link to comment
skc40
That should have been your first question, though. You are asking about step 3 when step 1 isn't even clear. Since you are not familiar with universities operating in quarter system (non-traditional system), I suggest you visit the page below and look for universities before coming into conclusion that universities operating in quarter system is a low-level one. http://www.collegexpress.com/lists/list/colleges-that-operate-on-a-quarter-system/243/ Anyways, my initial question was to find out if I can get admitted to the college before H1 starts. If you guys can answer them, fine-- else, no need to judge about which universities should I be applying to. Link to comment
JoeF
Since you are not familiar with universities operating in quarter system Huh? I attended a university in the quarter system, a public university in California. That's why I know that admission at REAL universities takes several months. For example, at ****, the deadline for admissions for Fall Quarter is December the previous year. Link to comment
