arm Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Hello, I became naturalized US citizen on August 8,2013. I also change my middle name and last name during this process. On August 14, when I went to apply for a replacement SSN card, with new name change, they could not find my new citizen information in the local SSN office. So they asked me to wait for a week. So I did and today when I called (August 23) they again could not find new information. So they asked me to wait 15 more days. The only document I have right now is Naturalization certificate and without SSN I cannot change/apply for anything (such as passport). Is this normal? Why is it taking so much time? Where do I ask about what's going on? Thanks A
pontevecchio Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Was a court ordered change involved? Did you politely speak to a Supervisor and ask what will make the problem go away? Also get an US Passport which is proof of Citizenship.
JoeF Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Didn't you have an SSN before? The number doesn't change. Just go there, file an SS-5 form, show your naturalization certificate, they make a copy of it. That should be it.
