Hi Guys,

I got my PhD here in the USA and currently working in a university and on cap-exempt H1b since May 15, 2013 and I have this Visa until May 14, 2014. I started my job on OPT and after 12 months of OPT they sponsored me H1b. I was never sponsored a cap-subject H1b in the past 5 years. Now I'm considering joining a company and it will be a cap-subject H1b. I know that the company that is going to hire me has to file H1b on April 1, 2014 with the employment start date as Oct 1, 2014. I want to know what possible options will I have? Once the company applies for H1b and it gets approved, do I need to leave the current job and start new job on Oct 1, 2014 or still continue working in the current job (they can extend my current h1b for 1 more year) or Once the company H1b is approved, can I start working with the now job. I really want to hear from any experts or people who were/are in the same situation.

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Ashok
