DeepakR2013
Hi All, First let me apologize if i have started a thread for a already existing topic. I searched for it and couldn't find it. May be I'm looking at the wrong places. Issue: I'm from Chennai and currently my GC application is going for I-485 filing shortly. i have all the necessary documentation expect the following problem. a. My birth certificate has my mother's Alias name instead of her legal name b. My passport though has my parent's legal name it has the first & last name switched. After long search i have submitted a request to change my mother's name in birth certificate. (it apparently has to go through gazette notification and then change to the birth certificate). Then i need to submit a request to in NYC consulate to fix the name issues in passport. This entire process is going to take probably 3-4 weeks or more. I read in some forums that instead of waiting for BC & passport all that I need is an affidavit explaining the name issues in birth certificate and passport and get it signed by my parents & notarize the same. Is that a possibility ? if yes then can some one point me to a format which i could use ? Thanks in advance for all your support. Link to comment
omshiv
You don't need to apologies to open a new thread. Why did you wait all this long to correct the names. Link to comment
Belle
As far as know, the US does not really care what's in your passport other than your own name. The names of your parents should be stated on the birth certificate, and that's the names the US will use. Link to comment
pontevecchio
Talk to a Lawyer. Send a few suitable affidavits. Basically let us assume you do not have an appropriate birth certificate. Do not delay yourself. Get a Lawyer please. Link to comment
