H1B approved and starts on Oct 1st, 2013 - can I change job now?

I am on OPT/CAP GAP and got my H1B approved which starts on Oct 1st, 2013. 1. Is it safe to change the client now keeping the same employer?

2. If yes, should I file for amendment now or can I wait till Oct 1st?
