H1 to H4 approval date

My H1b expired on Oct 1, 2012. On Sep 20, 2012 I filied for my H4 extension and got recepit on Sep 28, 2012. My H4 got approved. The approval notice shows H4 is valid from Dec 12, 2012 to 2015.

 

Was I out of status from Oct 1, 2012 till my H4 got approved on 12/12/2012 or since I filed H4 before my H1 expired, I should be fine.

 

Please reply as the approval date on H4 is scaring me.

If they thought you were out of status the COS would be denied. You are fine. There is no problem.

No. You were not out of status. The very fact that H4 was issued to you shows that you were never out of status.

USCIS can not grant status retroactively. Hence the date that you see on your approval is not same as date

you filed for H4.
