OOPTExntension still Pending..should I leave the country

Hello All- I applied for an Opt extension in Dec 2012. My first Opt expired on in Jan 2013. I got a RFE in June 2013 for which I have replied and I am still awaiting their decision. On July 12th 2013 it will pass the 180 day limit from date of OPT expiration. My employer/university has advised me to stop working from July12 2013 until I get the approval. The question I have is that should I leave the country and come back after I get the approval or can I still the stay in the country without working. Please advise

you'll have to leave the country.

You can stay until 60 days after Jun 12th but you have to stop working until you hear a decision on your OPT.
