Name change on passport?

Hi guys,

I recently got married and I have to apply for F1 visa for myself and F2 for my spouse for studying in US.

I have few questions:

- My official name is XXX Kaur. Kaur is the usual surname used by Sikh girls. None of the girls in my family (including my mother) uses family surname

- Now I am married. I am planning to keep using the current name going forward without suffixing the surname of my husband's family

- Is it compulsory to change your name of passport after marriage? Also do I also have to change the address?

- I do have marriage certificate with me. Which does not mention the name change at all. I hope for my visa application, I am safe.

Its not mandatory to change the name on passport. You can use the same name on your Visa as mentioned on your Passport...atleast thats what my wife does.
