TPS renewal after letting it expire

This question is for a friend who had TPS (Honduras) up until 2007 when he left the country to be with his dying mother. He didn't apply for advance parole and never renewed the TPS. He just left and never came back until recently. When he came back he was detained for a few weeks but was released after they saw that he previously had TPS. He was told that he could straighten it out after they release him. (they didn't deport him).

Does anyone know what the process is to renew? Since it's been a few years is there going to be any issues with that?

Your friend needs to get himself to an attorney experienced in these types of filings. The fact that he returned to the country that he needed to be protected from could be an issue. He failure to attend to details is another.
