tann19 Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 I have H1B till 2015. I work in a college and its 10 month yearly contract, worked there for the past 2 yrs. So my contract ends May 31, It will just not be renewed for august. My passport expires this august. I had planned on going to my home country during the summer renew my passport and get F1 visa, much quicker that way. But I found out I need to start in the summer rather than in the fall. I have applied to renew my passport from here but I don’t think I will get it back before May 31. Would I go out of status on May 31st? How should I remain on status? Should I just apply for the change of status with the pictures of my current passport that expires in August (I have those on my computer)? Should I wait till I get the new passport? Which might be the 2nd week in June I have everything I need to do a change of status online through uscis/elis. Thank you for your reply.

This is very risky. How would you convince the vo that you will go back after you have completed your degree??

Because F1 visa is for student program and during the interview you have to convince the vo that you will come back after the completion of degree. But you have already worked on H1 so, how do you convince vo that you will come back after the graduation/
