H1B Extension and GC filing

Hi

My Employer sponsored my H1 for a position X. Now they are planning to file my GC for a position Y. My H1B is expiring in Aug 2013. Should the extension of H1 be filed for the new position Y (which is for GC) or for the same position X. Please advice.

Assuming you have time left in your total of 6 years any sponsor can file a H1 extension for you for any position you are qualified for.

Thanks for the reply. They are yet to file my labor for GC but they filed the H1 extention quoting the new position. I am confused if that is what we need to do. Please advice.
