OPT after F1 visa expires

I'm pursuing MS and my F1 visa is about to expire in may 2014. After completion am i eligible to get OPT if my visa expires? If i'm eligible, can I travel out of country and come back? Can I extend my F1 visa with my OPT status?

You are eligible for OPT. But you cannot travel out of country if your visa is expired, you need to have a valid visa to enter into US.

Getting visa during OPT is risky.

Visa is only for entry. Once you are in the US, you do not use the visa but the I-94 for legal status.

t75: Thanks for your reply. The expiration date on the I-94 will be the expiration date of visa, then how can the i-94 be valid without the visa?

F1 generally has D/S rather than a date
