OPT Extn Pending on RFE and H1B approved

Hi,

I applied for STEM OPT extn in November -'12 and finally I got RFE in May'13.

My employer applied for my H1B in April'13 and my H1 got approved. I have time uptil mid of July to reply to RFE.

I m planning to travel out of the country without replying to the RFE and comeback and reply back to the RFE in July '13.

This way even if my OPTExtension gets denied, the H1B will kick-in from Oct '13 and I will be OK. is this understanding correct?

My initial OPT has expired in Dec'12.
