dzhang Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 I'm a Canadian citizen who used to hold H-4 status for 3 years through a relative's H-1 status. Recently, I've gotten a summer internship in the states, meaning that my status changed to J-1. Once the internship is over, I will lose the J-1 status. At that point, will my status revert to H-4, or will I be considered a visitor? Would i have to reapply for H-4 status?
Attorney_11 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Any subsequent status in the United States has to be applied for utilizing the regular procedure assuming eligibility for the status sought. Except in very limited circumstances, there is no process that allows "reverting" back to a previously held status.
