Travel to India while H1 extension in progress

Hello,

I am planning to go for vacation in first week of June. My H1 is expiring on 30th Sep 2013. I am planning to apply for extension. So when the extension is in progress, Can I travel to India and return to US in first week of july as I have valid VISA till 30th Sep 2013 ? Please clarify.
