H1B transfer and extension

Hi,

I have a couple of questions regarding transfer and extension of H1B visa. Any information will be very helpful.

1. I have a H1B which is valid till August 15, 2013. I am changing employers and my new job begins on 15th August 2013. Can my H1B visa/petition be transfered and extended simultaneously or will a new petition have to be filed?

My current and next employers are universities, so there are no worries about the quota restrictions for a new H1B.

2. My passport is also set to expire at the end of August this year. Can I give my current passport number for the H1 extension/transfer/new visa and renew my passport in the meantime? Or do I have to give the new passport number?

1. Yes. Since they are universities they will not ask for any input from you as they are used to the procedure.

2. Yes, unless the new HR tells you to extend the PP.
