Hello Experts,

(My name is FNU Aruna , As it shows i have only one name in passport and i.e first name )

I got married recently. I am willing to use my husbands surname. I want to know the procedure and risks/cost

currently I have

1) us h1b visa stamped

2) canada tourist visa stamped

3) approved 1-140

4) passport expiry - dec 2014

a) Do I need to file a new H1b immediately after passport name change ? or else I can wait till current h1b expire and file new h1b after passport name change.

b) Is there any risk of name change for H1B and green card process ( As ii will reflect different names on I140 and i485)

Thank you

With your Marriage Certificate get your passport updated with the Married Name, after that is done you can file for amendment with USCIS for your approved/pending applications to update your name and next time you are up for stamping you can get your visa stamp updated as well (do not need to do it right away).

In the mean while you would have to take your updated Passport and Marriage Certificate to DMV and SS Services to get your DL and SSN updated.

There is no risk with the name change, as it is not an out of this world scenario, name change due to marriage is pretty routine, many have done that before you and many will in the future.
