chris.candid
Hello All, I would like to change the LAST name of my step daughter to my(father) LAST name. All of us have Green cards. I have following questions. Any response in this regard is very much appreciated 1. Should I change LAST name in Indian Passport of my daughter - First ? 2. Should I change my Daughter’s Birth Certificate - Second ? 3. Should I change my Daughters School records - Thrid? 4. Should I change my Daughters Green Card by filling I-90 - Fourth? Should I make all the changes in the above mentioned order? Please advice and I am open to any suggestions. Thanks much in advance. Link to comment
chris.candid
If it makes your life easy, I would rephrase the question to: Would LAST name change on Indian Passport is sufficient to change LAST name on Green Card ? Thanks again for your time... Link to comment
chris.candid
I successfully changed the LAST name of my minor daughter on Indian passport. Is the Copy of passport SUFFICIENT for name change on Green Card. Please advise. Thanks again Link to comment
pontevecchio
I suspect a notarized copy should suffice. Unless the USCIS asks specifically for Originals one should not do so. Link to comment
chris.candid
Thanks much. Do you mean notarized copy of passport with new name ? Link to comment
pontevecchio
Yes. Also the documentation you used to file her name change with the Embassy and any letter response from them stating the name change has been approved and the passport name accordingly changed. Link to comment
chris.candid
Thank you very much pontevecchio. I can submit to USCIS all the supporting documentation(Notarized copy of Deed poll Sworn Affidavit for name change, Newspaper ads) provided to the Indian embassy for the name change on passport. However, Embassy has not issued any letter stating the name change. Even local court has denied her name change petition as she is non-US citizen. The only official document that I have from Indian Embassy is the Passport. Sorry to reiterate the question: Do you think notarized copy of passport with above mentioned supporting documents should suffice ? Thanks a bunch for all your responses. Link to comment
pontevecchio
She still remains a citizen of her home country. The Passport change should be enough. You may consider getting an INFOPASS if you choose and talk to the Officer. I would just apply for a duplicate I90. Link to comment
