siddhi2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 Hi, I have questions related to correcting the Birth certificate. My name in Birth certificate (from India) is 'A' where as all other documents/school certificates including passport has name 'B'. Has anyone faced this situation and how did you handle this? Can Birth certificate be corrected in India? if you know the procedure to do so, please let me know. It will be a great help. If the Birth certificate cannot be corrected what are my options while submitting I-485 application? What am I supposed to do for Birth certificate. Any suggestion is very much appreciated.
xfitter Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 I had similar issue due to name change. I was able to obtain a new Birth Certificate in the new name (name same as in passport and all other docs & certificates) by requesting for a new BC - my parents gave an application to Municipality, accompanied by their affidavits that person with name A and B are same and is their child, an affidavit from the doctor in hospital I was born and a statement from the village officer that name A and B are the same person (for which I had to provide notarized copy of my passport, secondary school certificate with my new name and DOB, my marriage certificate [strange VO needed that] and other available proof of residence within the jurisdiction of village office). I also had to surrender my old BC. Good luck. See the thread below:
