H4 can travel to U.S after H1B approval notice.

Hi,

I have a valid H4 visa from Nov 2011 to Aug 2014, but till now i did not fly and i have applied for H1B in April 2012 and it got aprroved in Sep 2012. Still i am in india, didnot fly to U.S because of some personal problems. In the month of May 2013 i am planning to fly U.S on H4 visa, Is it possible to fly on H4 visa eventhough i have an H1B approval notice. Can i fly to U.S. on H4 visa and change the status to H1B after reaching U.S. Please guide me.

Why are you avoiding the H1 visa? No sane employer would pay for the H1 PETITION again.

I believe you should change the status to H1 before entering the US. A friend of mine was stopped at the port of entry as he had a VISA with a different status (H4) than what she was on at that time (H1).
