My H1B was cancelled in 2009, I have new employer now, it should be H1B renewal or new H1B application?

My H1B was approved in 2008 in masters quota but I returned to home country in 2009 and my H1B was cancelled subsequently on my request to my old employer. I want to return to US now as i might have a job offer in hand from a new US employer very soon. Should the new employer file a new H1B petition on Apr1 thereby making me join only after Oct or can they apply for renewal of H1B anytime they want which will allow me to join them immediately? What is the best way?

You should go for renewal. that way you can start sooner than oct 1.
