kmramki Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 I am posting this for a friend. He got his Masters' degree a year ago, but was continuing in the PhD program. However, the situation has changed at the school, and he is likely going to have to leave the program. The problem is, companies simply don't want to wait for his H1B to become effective in October, after hiring him now. He does not qualify for a CPT, because he took a break two quarters ago. Can he qualify for an OPT, so he can start working now? If not, is there any other way around the problem?
