I have a doubt regarding the H1 B extension process and travelling restrictions

My current H1b Visa expires in Dec 2013 and i have got my visa stamped until then and i will be eligible for a visa extension before 6mths from the date of expiry and if i start my visa extension process in June and get approved in july (extension for 3 years)by any chance ,Can i still travel back and forth to India until December 2013 as i have a valid visa stamping until December

I have been stuck with this issue for quite some time,I really appreciate it if anyone could give me some insight into this

Generally an unexpired H-1B visa (foil in passport) can be used to enter the US to work according to the terms of an approved, valid H-1B petition.
