travel to India while H4 to F1 processing taking place

Hi,

I am currently pursuing MS and want to go for change of status from H4 to F1. I would likely be applying for change of status to F1 in the month of Mar2013 while I am in U.S .

I am planning to travel to India in the month of May 2013 and what if I dont get converted my change of status to F1 during that time i.e. in the month of May . Can I travel on H4 visa while Change of status is in the process?

Travel while a change of status is pending results in a abandonment of the change of status application. It may be necessary to re-file if an application is abandoned. The consequences of re-filing should be reviewed on a case by case basis with a qualified immigration attorney.
