Amp23 Posted January 16, 2013 Report Posted January 16, 2013 Hello everyone! I am hoping the experts here can answer my question. Thanks in advance. I moved from F1 to H1B in 2010. My visa was given for 2 years, but I did not go for visa interview, because I did not travel outside of US. This month, I got my H1B renewal approved for another 3 years. So I am planning to go to Canada to get it stamped. Can I go to Canada to get it stamped, despite not having my first H1B stamped? Is this a case of Change of Status from F1 to H1B? Some say, I should go to India to get it stamped, and some say otherwise. Any information on this will be helpful.
Suri K Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 I believe you can definitely get it stamped in Canada. In my case I initially came to US on L1 visa and then transferred to H1. Did not go for stamping. Renewed my H1 again. Now I came to Canada for Stamping. One catch is: wherever you go, it is possible that the application may need admin processing which may take several weeks/months. So, be prepared.

visa112 Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 mskataru, From your post i understood that you got your H1B visa stamped first time in canada. I am also in same situation, I came to USA on L1 and then transfered to H1 and planning to get my visa stamped. But this is my first time H1b visa stamping and i heard that i cannot go to canada for first time H1B stamping unless i have Masters degree. Please let me know your experience and suggestions whether i can go to canada for my first time H1B stamping. Thanks.
