I'm not sure did anybody face this kinda situation before but I really appreciate your inputs. 1. If we get 221g, can we ask VO our passport back? Few people mentioned that we can ask them, but I just wanna make sure about it. 2. I saw some posts saying, their visa is approved but the same day evening or the next day they got some email saying 'Admin processing'. Still we need to wait for it. In this case can we ask embassy to return my passport? and what is the procedure? We should contact the embassy directly or should email them? The reason for asking is I MUST go to India for my wedding. I have like only 2 weeks after my interview. Link to comment

You can get it from the embassy at any time, if VO has taken your passport during the interview. Link to comment

h1b_221g_vancouver Posted January 16, 2013 Report Share Posted January 16, 2013 Yes you can definitely ask the Embassy for the passport back while waiting for Administrative Processing to finish. They will provide you with an email address in the interview, all you need to do is shoot them an email and they will allow you to pick it up once they get the email. Link to comment

Few of my friends suggested the same, but I have some issues with my previous employer. and everybody thinks Canada is better option if this is your first time H1B stamping. I had my interview yesterday and the VO issued a 221G (white, if that makes any difference, I don't know). Before leaving the counter, I asked the VO if I can have my passport back. All he said was that you will need to personally come in to submit your passport when we ask for it, and he said as long as you understand that than you can take it. And, so I took it... Also, the 221G form itself has both options printed in it, when the Embassy has your passport and when you've your passport and they will send you the email accordingly. Me and my client already got emails from Embassy yesterday, asking about the some questions to the client and other H1B related docs from me, which we already provided. Now I'm not sure whether to wait for a few days or just go back and wait for their email in India.
