EAD renewal while on H1B

Hi -

I am working on H1B which is valid until Sept 2014. I also have EAD (got it through my husband's GC application) that will be up for renewal in 3 months. Do I have to go on EAD to apply for EAD renewal/new card? Or can I still be on H1B until Sept 2014 and apply for EAD renewal/new card now?

I would like to use up my H1B before going on EAD though. Any help would be appreciated.

You do not have to use EAD to renew the EAD.
