What to tell at the port of entry in Canada, the purpose of visit? Can I tell I am going for H1B stamping?

or

should I tell I am visiting a friend?

Now if I tell the second one, if my friend is in Montreal and I landed in Toronto..is it a good idea to tell I am visiting my friend in Montreal...? because POE offier may ask you could land in Montreal?

Say the first one " I have an appointment in so and so consulate". They will need to see DS160, I797 and your Passport so keep them handy. Its that simple.

Just tell the truth. tell them you came to attend visa interview and they will ask you to show the confirmation letter . and you are good to go.

You can say you are visiting US Embassy, if they ask for specific details you can talk abt H1B stamping

No need to lie. You should say whatever the truth is. I recently faced Canada port of entry, montreal and they were cool. Questions they asked were :

why are you going in Canada

- ans : has an appointment at US embassy

Where are you going to stay

- mentioned the address

Do you have some proof of reservation

- Showed the reservation print out.

Thats it. The same reason I mentioned when applied for visa tourist visa.
